About the Practice

Built from experience. Not a textbook.

Moss Theory Consulting exists because I've been on both sides of the table. I've run the businesses, made the mistakes, fixed the systems, and seen what actually works. This practice was built from that.

How It Started.

Ten years of building things taught me one thing.

I didn't start out as a consultant. I started out as a business owner.

Over the past decade I've had the opportunity to build, scale, and operate businesses across different industries. I've turned a restaurant into a profitable asset sale. I grew a solar company 4x in under a year. I've worked with nonprofits navigating resource constraints and municipalities trying to build long-term sustainability frameworks with limited budgets and real political pressure.

What I kept running into, in every industry and every context, was the same problem. Good people. Real ambition. Broken systems.

Not broken in a dramatic way. Broken in the quiet, everyday way that costs businesses money they don't know they're losing, time they can't get back, and opportunities they never see coming. A purchasing process that nobody has looked at in three years. A staffing structure built for a version of the business that no longer exists. A brand that doesn't reflect what the company actually does anymore.

These aren't failures of effort. They're failures of infrastructure.

That's what Moss Theory was built to fix.

The Approach.

No junior consultants. No boilerplate reports.

When you work with Moss Theory, you work with me directly. I'm not handing your engagement off to a team member or producing a templated deliverable that could apply to any business. Every engagement is built around your specific situation.

I've found that the most valuable thing I can offer isn't a framework. It's a clear set of eyes that isn't emotionally attached to how things have always been done, combined with enough real-world experience to know what's actually worth changing and what isn't.

A lot of consulting is about looking smart. This practice is about being useful.

That means I'll tell you things that are uncomfortable to hear. I'll push back on assumptions. I'll say when something isn't working before you ask. And I'll stay engaged through implementation, not just hand you a plan and disappear.

Practical Over Theoretical

Every recommendation I make is built to be acted on. If it can't be implemented with your actual team and your actual resources, it doesn't belong in the plan.

THREE THINGS I BELIEVE

Honest Over Impressive

I'd rather tell you something difficult and useful than something polished and pointless. Good strategy starts with an accurate picture of reality, even when that picture is uncomfortable.

Systems Over One-Time Fixes

A patch solves today's problem. A system prevents tomorrow's. I build things that keep working after I'm gone, because that's what actually creates lasting change.

BY THE NUMBERS

10+ Years operating and advising businesses

Is This a Fit?
I work best with a specific kind of client.

Not every business is the right fit for Moss Theory and I'd rather be honest about that upfront.

I work best with owners and leaders who already know something isn't working. You don't need to have the answer. You just need to be willing to look honestly at the problem and committed to doing something about it.

I also work well with people who value directness. I'm not going to spend our engagement validating decisions you've already made. I'm going to tell you what I actually think. If that sounds useful, we'll probably work well together.

If you're looking for someone to produce a deck that confirms your existing strategy, I'm probably not the right fit. If you're looking for someone to help you build something that actually works, let's talk.
